Gary is a small city located in Deuel County, South Dakota, United States. It has a population of approximately 185 people according to the 2019 US Census Bureau. Gary is situated near the border with Minnesota and is located about 80 miles north of Sioux Falls. The city was founded in 1886 and named after an early settler, Gary E. Diamond. The city has a total area of 0.32 square miles and is served by the Deuel School District. Agriculture is the main industry in the area, with corn and soybeans being the primary crops. Several small businesses, including a grocery store, gas station, and post office, serve the local community. Nearby attractions include Lake Kampeska, Lake Poinsett, and the Glacial Lakes State Park.
